Our Future
At Big Muddy Genetics, our dedication to continual learning and community engagement is closely tied to our profound appreciation for cannabis and the positive impact it has had on our own lives—as medicinal consumers, growers, and aspiring cannabis breeding craftsmen.
By drawing on our technical expertise, research abilities, and artistic inclinations, we strive to advance cannabis breeding as both a science and an art. Leveraging our engineering and technology backgrounds, we combine modern tools with traditional breeding methods to research, test, and develop a remarkable array of unique cultivars that consistently exceed our customers’ expectations.
Our Roots
Formally established in 2024 by two brothers native to the Southern Illinois region, Big Muddy Genetics is a family-owned and operated craft cannabis cultivar research and seed development collective with deep roots in the legendary Big Muddy Monster territory.
While our journey into the world of cannabis cultivation had humble beginnings – starting out in a dark, cobweb-packed and treacherous attic crawlspace not far from where the Big Muddy Monster has been spotted – we’ve “grown into our gardening gloves” over the years and are now beyond thrilled to offer some of the highest quality cannabis seeds available today!

At Big Muddy Genetics, we fully embrace the idea that “everyone has to start somewhere.” We are deeply grateful to the many growers and breeders who came before us, taking on risk of persecution to lay the groundwork not only for today’s cultivars and genetics, but also for the thriving culture surrounding cannabis cultivation that exists today. Their pioneering efforts have fostered positive public discourse around cannabis and made a significant difference in providing medical relief to people around the globe.
We recognize that every cultivar we create at Big Muddy Genetics is built on the dedication and tireless efforts of those who preceded us. We also believe in the critical importance of accurately documenting the lineage of all cultivars used in breeding projects, both to honor past work and to advance cannabis science.
Accordingly, we will always provide comprehensive details on the parental lineage of our cultivars—citing both breeders and cultivar names—and will not alter this information in any way. We encourage others to do the same, ensuring transparency and respect for the collective progress within our industry.

Big Muddy Genetics mission is to enhance the symbiotic relationship between humans and cannabis through a delicate blend of scientific rigor and artisan craftsmanship. We honor the lineage of every cultivar we breed. We openly share the parent strains, traits, and stories behind each cross. No mystery genetics — just honest seeds, bred with intention and pride.

We’re small by design. Our seeds are hand-pollinated in limited batches, carefully selected and tested to ensure robust, unique plants that stand out in any garden. Every pack represents countless hours of observation, selection, and love for the craft.
Organic & Sustainable by Nature
We grow and breed in living soil, using organic practices that restore and sustain our land. Our goal is to leave our soil better than we found it — with practices that protect pollinators, conserve water, and tread lightly on this earth.
Rooted in Community
As a family-owned and operated farm, we build real relationships with our growers — many of whom become friends and collaborators. We share knowledge, trade stories, and celebrate the craft together. We also actively support organizations like Last Prisoner Project which have brought about and continue to help manifest positive changes in the realm of criminal injustice and drug policy reform affecting many friends and loved ones in our communities.

Sustainability
We’ve been practicing the #leavenotrace mentality since Scouts.
From selective sourcing with a preference for sustainable materials used in the seed production process to designing eco-friendly merch and packaging, sustainability and treating our environment with respect is at the forefront of our guiding factors when it comes all decision making at Big Muddy Genetics.
To this end, we also actively support organizations like the Clean Air Task Force (CATF) which are focused on how we secure a sustainable future for all. We encourage others who are able and willing to do the same; together we can make a positive impact with global implications.
